Some DL360 Gen11 OCP3 adapters have a physical x16 design but can operate through an x8 connection. HPE specifically documents this for several adapters.
| Part Number | Adapter | PCIe Design | Adapter Maximum Throughput | Maximum Bandwidth with x8 PCIe |
| P22767-B21 | Intel E810-CQDA2 100Gb 2-port QSFP28 OCP3 | Gen4 x16 | 100 Gb/s ASIC | Approximately 126 Gb/s |
| P26269-B21 | Broadcom BCM57504 10/25Gb 4-port SFP28 OCP3 | Gen4 x16 | 100 Gb/s | Approximately 126 Gb/s |
| P73114-B21 | Broadcom BCM57608 100Gb 2-port QSFP112 OCP3 | Gen5 x16 | 200 Gb/s | Approximately 256 Gb/s |
HPE notes that the x8 PCIe connection provides sufficient bandwidth for these adapters. A Gen5 x16 OCP3 cable connection can also be used with adapters physically designed for x16 connectivity.
The Broadcom BCM5719 Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T OCP3 Adapter P51181-B21 is the OCP networking adapter defaulted by the configurator. Customers can remove it and select another PCIe or OCP card from the Networking, InfiniBand, Smart IO, or Storage Offload categories.
OCP Slot 2 is the primary OCP networking location because it provides Share NIC and Wake-on-LAN functionality.
OCP slot connectivity depends on processor count, chassis configuration, and the selected OCP enablement kits.
| Product | Part Number | Function |
| HPE ProLiant DL3XX Gen11 OCP1 x16 Enablement Kit | P48827-B21 | Provides x16 connectivity to OCP Slot 1 |
| HPE ProLiant DL3XX Gen11 OCP2 x16 Enablement Kit | P48828-B21 | Provides x16 connectivity to OCP Slot 2 |
| HPE ProLiant DL3XX Gen11 CPU2 to OCP2 x8 Enablement Kit | P48830-B21 | Provides x8 connectivity from CPU2 to OCP Slot 2 |
| HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 CPU1 to OCP2 x8 Enablement Kit | P51911-B21 | Provides x8 connectivity from CPU1 to OCP Slot 2 |
The 20 EDSFF CTO model provides only x8 PCIe 5.0 electrical lanes to each of its two OCP slots. P48830-B21 can be used to enable OCP Slot 2. The P48827-B21 OCP1 x16, P48828-B21 OCP2 x16, and P51911-B21 CPU1-to-OCP2 x8 kits are not supported because the associated PCIe connectivity is used by the front storage configuration.
The DL360 Gen11 supports high-speed InfiniBand and dual-protocol Ethernet/InfiniBand adapters for HPC and other high-bandwidth workloads.
| Product | Part Number |
| HPE InfiniBand NDR200/Ethernet 200Gb 1-port OSFP PCIe5 x16 MCX75310AAS-HEAT Generic Adapter | P45642-H23 |
| HPE InfiniBand NDR200/Ethernet 200GbE 2-port QSFP112 PCIe5 x16 MCX755106AC-HEAT Adapter | P65333-H21 |
| HPE InfiniBand NDR/Ethernet 400Gb 1-port OSFP PCIe5 x16 MCX75310AAS-NEAT Generic Adapter | P45641-H24 |
HPE identifies P45641-H24, P65333-H21, and P45642-H23 as transition-equivalent SKUs for earlier lifecycle SKUs. The NDR adapters use PCIe 5.0 x16. High-speed InfiniBand configurations have specific cooling, CPU, memory, storage, and ambient-temperature requirements.
The QuickSpecs also list network adapters designed for NVMe over Fabrics and storage-offload workloads.
| Product | Part Number |
| NVIDIA Ethernet 100Gb 2-port NVMe-oF Offload Adapter for HPE | R8M41A |
| NVIDIA Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 NVMe-oF Crypto Adapter for HPE | S2A69A |
The R8M41A adapter uses PCIe 3.0 x16. HPE requires a High Performance Fan Kit and secondary full-height riser for this adapter. Each storage-offload card also requires two supported 100GbE transceivers or cables. The QuickSpecs identify Q8J73A, Q2F19A, and Q9S71A as supported selections.
| Product | Part Number |
| HPE 100GbE QSFP28 PSM4 500m Transceiver | Q8J73A |
| HPE 100GbE QSFP28 SR4 100m Transceiver | Q2F19A |
| HPE 100GbE QSFP28 to QSFP28 5m Active Optical Cable | Q9S71A |
High-speed network adapters require additional attention to system cooling and component selection. HPE specifies several important restrictions for 100GbE and faster networking and InfiniBand adapters.
Some high-speed networking configurations reduce the supported storage configuration. HPE documents different limits based on whether the server uses 4 LFF, 8 SFF, 8+2 SFF, or 20 EDSFF storage, as well as whether the drives are SAS/SATA or NVMe.
With certain high-speed InfiniBand adapters and Closed Loop Liquid Cooling, SFF NVMe or EDSFF drives cannot be selected. For an InfiniBand NDR 1-port OSFP adapter in an 8 SFF CTO system with Closed Loop Liquid Cooling, HPE limits the configuration to a maximum of eight NVMe drives. For an InfiniBand NDR200 1-port QSFP adapter in a 20 EDSFF CTO system with Closed Loop Liquid Cooling, EDSFF drives cannot be selected.
The QuickSpecs thermal tables distinguish between Direct Attach Copper (DAC) and Active Optical Cable (AOC) configurations. In several high-speed networking configurations, DAC cabling allows a higher supported ambient temperature than AOC. Exact limits vary by adapter, processor TDP, cooling solution, and drive configuration.
The QuickSpecs state that the motherboard does not provide embedded networking. A validated OCP3 or PCIe network adapter must be selected for CTO configurations.
The QuickSpecs list Ethernet adapters from 1GbE through 200GbE, along with high-speed Ethernet/InfiniBand adapters reaching 400Gb.
Yes. The server has two motherboard OCP slots. OCP Slot 2 is the preferred networking slot because it provides Share NIC functionality including Wake-on-LAN.
The QuickSpecs identify the Broadcom BCM5719 Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T OCP3 Adapter, P51181-B21, as the adapter defaulted by the configurator. Customers can replace it with another supported PCIe or OCP networking option.
No. The two OCP slots are located on the motherboard and do not consume the standard PCIe expansion slots.
For several specifically documented adapters, yes. HPE states that P22767-B21, P26269-B21, and P73114-B21 can use an x8 connection because the available x8 PCIe bandwidth is sufficient for their documented throughput.
OCP Slot 2 has priority for networking because it supports Share NIC and Wake-on-LAN. When two OCP NICs are installed, the higher-speed adapter receives priority for Slot 2.
No. The QuickSpecs state that the 20 EDSFF CTO configuration provides x8 PCIe 5.0 electrical lanes to each OCP slot and does not support the OCP1 x16 or OCP2 x16 enablement kits.
Yes. Multiple 100Gb PCIe and OCP3 adapters are listed, including Intel, Broadcom, Mellanox, and NVIDIA options.
Yes. The QuickSpecs include 200Gb Ethernet and InfiniBand/Ethernet options as well as a 400Gb NDR/Ethernet adapter. These high-speed adapters have additional thermal and configuration requirements.
The QuickSpecs generally prohibit 256 GB memory with Networking/InfiniBand PCIe and OCP cards at 100G or higher. Certain Direct Liquid Cooling configurations provide a documented exception at 1 DIMM per channel, up to eight 256 GB DIMMs per socket.
Yes. The high-speed networking sections specify High Performance Fan Kits and, for some CPU and storage configurations, Closed Loop Liquid Cooling or Direct Liquid Cooling.
For the high-speed 100GbE adapters covered by the QuickSpecs restrictions, HPE states that the Standard Fan Kit cannot be configured.
Yes. HPE's thermal tables distinguish between Direct Attach Copper and Active Optical Cable configurations, and some configurations allow higher ambient temperatures with DAC.
Yes. The QuickSpecs list PCIe high-speed InfiniBand/Ethernet adapters, including NDR200 200Gb and NDR 400Gb options.
Yes. The QuickSpecs list NVIDIA Ethernet NVMe-oF adapters, including the R8M41A 100Gb 2-port NVMe-oF Offload Adapter and S2A69A 10/25Gb SFP28 NVMe-oF Crypto Adapter.
