HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 Cables

Cable Overview

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 uses configuration-specific cable and enablement kits for storage controllers, drive cages, NS204i-u boot devices, optical drives, storage batteries, EDSFF storage, and Direct Liquid Cooling.

Cable selection is closely tied to the chassis, drive cage, storage controller form factor, and connection method. In particular, the 8 SFF, 4 LFF, and 20 EDSFF configurations use different cable combinations.

DL360 Gen11 Cable & Enablement Kits

The QuickSpecs identify the following cable-related kits for the DL360 Gen11.

Internal Storage Controller Cables

The primary storage cable kits connect DL360 Gen11 drive cages to PCIe or OCP form-factor internal storage controllers. The required cable depends on the drive cage and controller being used.

P48909-B21 8SFF PCIe Controller Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 8SFF PCIe Controller Cable Kit P48909-B21 is used when an 8 SFF drive cage is connected to a supported PCIe stand-up internal storage controller.

For the 8 SFF x4 U.3 Tri-Mode drive cage, HPE specifically requires P48909-B21 when using supported Tri-Mode PCIe stand-up controllers such as the SR932i-p, MR416i-p, or MR216i-p, subject to the controller and drive-cage combination rules.

A maximum of one 8 SFF cable can be selected per server.

P52416-B21 OROC Tri-Mode Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 OROC Tri-Mode Cable Kit P52416-B21 provides the corresponding 8 SFF connection for supported OCP form-factor storage controllers.

If an 8 SFF OROC cable is selected, HPE requires an 8 SFF drive cage and an OCP form-factor controller. For the 8 SFF x4 U.3 Tri-Mode drive cage, the QuickSpecs specifically identify P52416-B21 for supported OCP3.0 controllers.

P48909-B21 vs. P52416-B21

These two cable kits serve similar 8 SFF storage configurations but are associated with different controller form factors.

P48910-B21 2SFF Tri-Mode Controller Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 2SFF Tri-Mode Controller Cable Kit P48910-B21 is used with the optional 2 SFF U.3 drive cage and supported PCIe or OCP form-factor storage controllers.

If this cable is selected, HPE requires both a 2 SFF drive cage and a supported controller. A maximum of one 2 SFF controller cable can be selected per server.

8 SFF + 2 SFF Controller Cabling

More complex 8 SFF plus 2 SFF storage configurations can require multiple cable kits. The QuickSpecs state that when an 8 SFF x4 U.3 drive cage and 2 SFF drive cage are configured with supported PCIe and OCP controllers, the configuration can require both an 8 SFF controller cable and the P48910-B21 2 SFF Tri-Mode Controller Cable Kit.

The 8 SFF cable is selected according to controller form factor: P48909-B21 for the applicable PCIe stand-up controller path or P52416-B21 for the applicable OCP controller path.

4 LFF Storage Cables

The 4 LFF DL360 Gen11 uses different cabling depending on whether the drives are connected through a supported hardware storage controller or through the server's embedded SATA direct-attach configuration.

P48913-B21 LFF Internal Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 LFF Internal Cable Kit P48913-B21 is the internal controller cable kit for applicable 4 LFF configurations.

The kit contains two independent cables supporting PCIe RAID controller and OCP RAID controller configurations. If the 4 LFF internal cable kit is selected, HPE requires at least one supported MR408i-o, MR216i-o, MR416i-o, MR216i-p, or MR416i-p controller.

A maximum of one LFF cable selection is supported for the 4 LFF CTO model.

P51897-B21 4LFF SAS/SATA Signal Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 4LFF SAS/SATA Signal Cable Kit P51897-B21 is supported with the 4 LFF CTO model and is used for the documented embedded SATA direct-attach configuration.

If an LFF SATA drive is selected without an MR408i-o, MR216i-o, MR416i-o, MR216i-p, or MR416i-p controller, HPE requires this cable.

Only one of P48913-B21 or P51897-B21 can be selected for a 4 LFF CTO configuration.

P61535-B21 2SFF SlimSAS to MLB FIO Trigger

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 2SFF SlimSAS to MLB Cable FIO Trigger System Setting P61535-B21 is unusual because HPE explicitly states that it is not a physical part or component. It is a virtual trigger used to provide factory installation instructions for supported SATA or SAS configurations in the 2 SFF drive cage.

• Supported with the 8 SFF CTO model only.
• Requires the 2 SFF x4 U.3 drive cage.
• Maximum quantity is one.
• Used for the documented motherboard-connected 2 SFF configuration.
• If selected, NVMe drives cannot be installed in the 2 SFF U.3 drive cage.
• If selected, NS204i-u cannot be selected.

EDSFF Controller Cable

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 EDSFF Tri-Mode Controller Cable from PCIe Slot 2/3 with Drive Label FIO Kit P73001-B21 provides controller enablement for the EDSFF CTO server.

This is a Factory Integrated Option with a maximum quantity of one. It supports one SR932i-p RAID controller installed at PCIe Slot 2/3 and requires the P48901-B21 x16 Full Height Riser Kit for the full-height SR932i-p adapter.

EDSFF Drive Connectivity with P73001-B21

P73001-B21 connects to SR932i-p ports 2 through 4 in PCIe Slot 2/3 and provides connectivity for drive bays 1 through 6, supporting up to six E3.S 1T drives through this enablement.

The QuickSpecs state that drive bays 7 through 20 have no connection or function if the additional factory-installed P73000-B21 enablement is not selected. With P73000-B21 and P73001-B21 together from factory installation, HPE documents support for up to 14 E3.S 1T drives, while drive bays 7 through 12 have no connection/function by default.

NS204i-u Cable Kits

The DL360 Gen11 supports two NS204i-u cable/enablement configurations: an internal installation and a rear hot-plug installation.

P48920-B21 NS204i-u Internal Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 NS204i-u Internal Cable Kit P48920-B21 enables an internal NS204i-u boot device installation. HPE lists the kit as field installable but without hot-plug capability.

P54702-B21 NS204i-u Rear Cable Kit

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 NS204i-u Rear Cable Kit P54702-B21 enables the NS204i-u in the PCIe Slot 2 area with hot-plug capability.

The kit replaces the original PCIe Slot 2 cage with the dedicated DL360 Gen11 NS204i-u cage, latch, and cables. The NS204i-u occupies the PCIe Slot 2 space. PCIe Slot 1 remains available, and PCIe Slot 3 can be made Low Profile with the optional P48903-B21 x16 LP Riser Kit.

NS204i-u Cable Selection Rules

If an NS204i-u device is selected, HPE requires either the Internal or Rear cable kit, and the corresponding cable kit requires an NS204i-u device. The two cable kits cannot be selected together.

• P48920-B21 provides the internal configuration.
• P54702-B21 provides the rear hot-plug configuration.
• P48920-B21 and P54702-B21 cannot be selected together.
• If a Secondary Full Height riser is selected, the P54702-B21 Rear Cable Kit cannot be selected.

Storage Battery Enablement Cable

The HPE ProLiant Storage Controller Enablement Cable Kit P48918-B21 is associated with supported Smart Storage battery and capacitor configurations.

If storage battery P01366-B21, P65038-B21, or P02377-B21 is selected, HPE requires P48918-B21, and vice versa. The QuickSpecs allow a maximum of one storage battery per server.

Optical Drive Cable

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 LFF Optical Cable Kit P48914-B21 is required when installing a supported internal 9.5mm SATA DVD-ROM or DVD-RW optical drive in the 4 LFF DL360 Gen11.

The supported internal optical drives identified by the QuickSpecs are 726536-B21 DVD-ROM and 726537-B21 DVD-RW.

Direct Liquid Cooling Connection Kit

The HPE ProLiant Direct Liquid Cooling 450mm Female-Male Connection Quick Disconnect Tube Set FIO Kit P62046-B21 is the connection kit used with the DL360 Gen11 Direct Liquid Cooling modules.

If a DLC module is selected, HPE requires the P62046-B21 tube set as the extension from the rear wall of the server. A maximum of one tube set can be selected per server.

Cable Selection by Configuration

The correct cable depends on what the cable is connecting. The following table summarizes the primary selection paths documented in the QuickSpecs.

Drive Cage Cabling

The 8 SFF x4 U.3 Tri-Mode Backplane Kit and 2 SFF x4 U.3 Tri-Mode Enablement Kit include Direct Access cables and backplane power cables. When no internal controller is selected, supported drive cages can connect directly to the motherboard.

When a Tri-Mode controller is used instead, HPE requires the appropriate controller cable: P48909-B21 for supported PCIe stand-up controllers, P52416-B21 for supported OCP3.0 controllers, and P48910-B21 for the optional 2 SFF cage.

Important Cable Configuration Rules

• A maximum of one 8 SFF controller cable can be selected per server.
• A maximum of one 2 SFF controller cable can be selected per server.
• A maximum of one LFF storage cable can be selected for a 4 LFF CTO server.
• P48913-B21 and P51897-B21 are alternative 4 LFF storage cable selections.
• An 8 SFF PCIe controller cable requires an applicable 8 SFF drive cage and PCIe form-factor internal controller.
• An 8 SFF OROC cable requires an applicable 8 SFF drive cage and OCP form-factor storage controller.
• A 2 SFF Tri-Mode controller cable requires a 2 SFF drive cage and supported controller.
• P48920-B21 and P54702-B21 cannot both be selected for the NS204i-u.
• P61535-B21 is a virtual factory trigger rather than a physical cable component.
